hi,
I have an interview at a 150 atty general practice law firm with a decent patent dept. tomorrow and I am scheduled to meet a partner in the patent prosecution side and the Executive Director of the mid-sized firm.   The executive director is responsible for finance, human resources, marketing, technology, strategic planning, facilities and operations in the firm. He has managed law firms for two decades.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), an international organization of professional managers of private law firms, non-profits and government organizations.

He only has a bachelors degree. No law degree.  sounds like he's head of the administrative staff. 

can anyone tell me what kind of questions to ask him and what the purpose of meeting with him may be. 

Btw, I have 3 yrs of experience so I will be applying for a fourth year attorney position.

The purpose is probably to sell you on the firm, to let you know what benefits they provide.  You can ask him what are the benefits, do they cover your wife and kids? If not, what is the out of pocket costs for covering wife and kids.  does the firm pay for licenses, and CLEs.  Good luck!

Interview went well. He was basically moderating the interview as well as talking about what the firm offers.  I had a second round 3 weeks later wth 5 partners.  3 in at one time, and then 2 more came in.  the Executive director was sitting in those interviews as well.  They expressed interest. are doing a conflicts check on me and calling references.  i hope i get an offer at this point.  in terms of salary, they pay less than other firms their size.  i will need to negotiate for a better salary but will keep u posted once i get an offer.
