This is non JD position or for someone that is a career contract manager witha JD. Local drug discovery and development company poised to enter the commercial market is seeking a Contracts Manager capable of assuming primary responsibility for the contract support needs of various functions. The successful applicant will report to the Corporate Counsel and work closely with management and commercial, marketing, medical affairs and other business groups. Prepare and negotiate various standard template agreements for internal clients as well as complex, multi-faceted business agreements; review third party agreements and negotiate with third parties; identify legal/compliance matters that arise in contracts (or in failure to contract appropriately) and seek input from Corporate Counsel; identify business issues in negotiations and advise clients to enable them to make judgment calls on such issues; interact with internal clients to understand their business in order to facilitate contracting; provide post-execution support on agreements (e.g., interpreting amendments, extensions, termination, payment issues); maintain appropriate contract information in contracts database and identify improvements to database; develop, lead and implement strategic initiatives to simplify and improve contract administration process; report on various contracts metrics on a quarterly basis such as turnaround time, volume per department etc; work closely with other members of the contracts group providing support, leadership and mentoring as needed; recognize when new contract templates are needed and draft accordingly; participate in and lead cross functional contracts initiatives. Minimum of 7-10 years contracts experience, preferably in the life sciences industry with at least 3-5 years in commercial and marketing functions; knowledge of Fraud & Abuse/Anti-kickback laws and regulations; Significant experience in drafting/negotiating consulting, services, speaker engagement, advisory board, confidentiality, supply, manufacturing, distribution in a variety of contexts; ability to handle complex, contested negotiations with no supervision; superior drafting and interpretative skills; ability to think creatively about problems and devise innovative solutions; ability to lead and successfully deliver cross functional initiatives; understanding of complex legal and business concepts; superior diplomacy skills and an ability to manage conflict; ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment; demonstrates seasoned judgment and strategic thinking; ability to interact successfully with senior management; detail oriented.
