OK... brief background....

I am a lawyer with four years experience, doing general practice work.  I have a degree in engineering, but I have not used it in at least 10 years.  (I took the FE in 1998, but never took the PE.)  I just took the patent bar and passed it.

I have little desire (right now, at least) to relocate to DC.  My extended family is close by, and we love the town we are in. 

There are no patent law firms--or for that matter, actively practicing patent lawyers--for at least 100 miles from my town.  However, I live very close to a prestegious research university. 

Given the above, how should I proceed once I get registered?  Many thanks.
