Pay for Patent Attorney in Japan
« on: 01-09-11 at 08:14 pm »

I recently interviewed for a position in a Japanese firm.  I have a few questions that they want answered such as how long I would see myself living there and why I want to live there.  I know I can get answers for those questions.  I need your help with determining what salary I would consider acceptable.  I would be working in Japan doing USPTO prosecution, application drafting and opinion work.  I have 2 years experience.

Do I just basically use the currently salary I have or do I ask for more because of the move and also increase cost of living?

Any advice or places to research would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You might try doing a search on the USPTO website to find some attorneys working over there, then do a Google search to track down their email addresses, and ask if they'd be willing to advise you.

I emailed back and forth with one a few years ago.  My understanding then was that Japanese pay scales are not nearly as high as in the U.S.
