I filed a patent some several years ago. I was on a high when my idea was accepted for Patenting without reservation at an inventors programme called Whats The Big Idea! I was asked to do 15 mins on tv for Sky with my idea being accepted on camera by the money people involved at the time. I know this sounds hard to believe but I walked away from it all just before going on camera. It was being filmed at the Lowry Centre Manchester and I decided it may have been taken out of my hands with these people and did a runner! I have obviously spent many years thinking this over and beating myself up about it wondering if I made the right decision. I can hear people out there shouting YES YOU DID YOU IDIOT!!!! However I now have come to a stage in my life when I feel more confident in myself, and am ready to move forward again with the idea. I am confidant this idea has not been taken on by anyone and have done a provisional search on espacenet gov site. However I wondered if anyone out there can give me some new advice on where I go with it and what to do best. I have been offered some financial help with it from a partner and am looking forward to setting the ball in motion so to speak.

You say you "filed a patent".

If this was a utility rather than a provisional patent, it is very likely that your patent published. If so, this patent publication will serve as "prior art" to any new application that you may be thinking of filing. Such prior art will make it very difficult, it not impossible, to obtain a new patent on the same subject matter.

So the first thing you need to do is find out what happened with your original patent filing.
