Summer job for 1Ls
« on: 12-21-10 at 03:12 pm »

So here is my situation:

1L at a middle ranked law school in the midwest + BSEE + 2 years engineering experience before law school + passed patent bar

I'm trying to find patent related summer employment, ideally at a small boutique patent firm, but it looks like most law firms aren't hiring 1Ls.

What would be the next best option for summer employment after working for a law firm?  Does anybody have any tips on applying for summer jobs or know of any openings in the midwest?

Who needs firms?  Sell yourself in-house.

If you don't mind my asking, what school are you at?

Is there any reason why you are limiting your search geographically?  The "Midwest" encompasses an area larger than a tolerable daily commute, probably by a factor of 10.  If you are going to seek jobs based more distantly than you care to commute to, what's the difference between moving someplace else in the Midwest and moving someplace else in the country for the summer?

I'm at case western in Cleveland.  Point taken about moving outside commuting distance- its just I was thinking there'd be better job prospects for me in the midwest since that's where my school is located.  Anyway, is patent law for EE hotter (or just less dead) in any particular region of the country?
