I use Skype

it's a great way to communicate worldwide and account holders are free worldwide,

It is great for keyboard chat with Manufacture and is easier to talking more productive to move forward, also I find I can send most files to China through Skype, so it by-passes the China great internet wall.

I leave messages in my contacts skype window, so it saves me a heap of time also

Look for manufactures who have a yearly turnover of 5-100 million in sales per year, also looking for high ratings on websites and local government approval in China, Taiwan Manufactures are better regulated and have been doing business for a long time also in manufacturing new products.

As a basic rule, stay away from Companies that are less than 10 years in manufacturing for many reasons, 10-40 years if possible and some regions in China are very risky.

I have one manufacture (established in 1967) in China who has 3,000- customers being (importers,distributors and Brands) for a new Hair Brush design, the paying field is changing and Taiwan and China Manufactures are changing the landscape of new products, with new brands from China direct to retail outlets, it all comes down to price point and quality.

Distribution can be a problem for some new products, its a matter of finding a distributor or importer who is keen enough to work with you to take your new product into the market, if a Asian manufacture is keen they will move fast and even faster if you can generate orders, also consider both royalties and commission, so get paid 2 times for the one new product per unit which I have done, clip your ticket twice!

remember not to overload your new product with royalties or commissions, keep it realistic, leave money on the table for all involved

Also getting the retail buyers into the process from Europe to approve the packaging based on photo's before the first shipment is sent from Asia, this is helps the process!

Personally,
              Taiwan is ideal, generally they like your product to claw back market share against China Manufactures and some will pay for all tooling and Patents provided the level of interest is there in your new Concept/Invention.

The difference is I work in a development and design, Patent research and market research with these small to mid size companies, so we get the product right first together (Partnership in good faith) in many situations and then sign the agreements.

So building relationships in the key most Inventors do not understand, these relationships give me internal access to the marketing staff of these companies and the Patent attorney's who work for these manufactures.

To put it bluntly the biggest problem I have is with Inventors attitudes and not the manufactures!
