Cronous,

Excellent post! If anyone here is concerned about overtime, satalite offices, hiring, etc then you should contact your rep ASAP. The vote for hr 1249 is scheduled for next week.

Butcher, another problem you have to watch

is http://www.federaltimes.com/article/20110526/PERSONNEL03/105260302/

HR 657, would let the government hire only one employee for every two who leave until the budget is balanced;

HR 1779, would go further, and halt almost all hiring until the deficit is eliminated.

So, even if the USPTO gets to keep their money, they may not be able to use it hire new employees unless they see a huge exodus of examiners

Hopefully 657 and 1779 wont get past the senate, as I am sure a lot of government employees are hoping.

Here is the link to end fee diversion again, in case some missed it on the previous page.

Any news on the Lummis' bill, HR 657 and the Marino's bill, HR 1779.  Does anyone know when they will make a decision?

looks like there is a new bill, H.R. 2114

http://www.asmconline.org/2011/06/proposed-bill-to-cut-federal-jobs-by-10-latest-attempt-to-reduce-government-workforce/

The Reducing the Size of the Federal Government Through Attrition Act of 2011 (H.R. 2114) would limit the size of the federal workforce by September 30, 2014 to 90 percent of the level as of September 30, 2011. The co-sponsors say the proposal would save $128 billion over 10 years.

If the PTO is self-funded, it should be exempted from any caps on the number of federal employees, I would think.

I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think this is the case (being exempt from this cap).  If some one knows for a fact that they would be exempt please correct me.  They need permission to spend their fund and to hire.

Does the new bill H.R. 2114 effect the USPTO hiring?

Don't worry about it until anything becomes of it.

From the link above ...

Unlike some past proposals to cut the federal workforce, H.R. 2114 does not exempt the Department of Defense or Homeland Security.  The bill would allow a presidential waiver for identified positions or categories of jobs and for war, national security concerns, or if threats to life, health, public safety, or property exist.

The president could give a waiver.

I hope this will be the case.  I'm waiting for this job to open again.  And I know they have a backlog.  If anyone has any updates please post it.

Thanks

How many people are actually able to take advantage of the accelerated promotions?  Not in terms of being eligible, but meeting the requirements (whatever they are) within 6 months of starting?

In my training class I think at least half wanted to or were eligible for six month promotion, but that is just an estimate, other training classes may be different.
