I hope this is the correct board to post on, but...

I work for a foreign law firm whose only office is outside of the U.S., and I am a U.S. citizen registered to practice before the USPTO (and also registered to the NY bar).  Our office goes through a U.S. firm when filing OA responses, conducting interviews, etc., but I am becoming dissatisfied with that firm because their attorney keeps making mistakes.  So, I would so appreciate it if someone could help answer the following:

1) If I am registered to practice before the USPTO, do we even need to use a U.S. firm to do the filing, or can I just file it (even though I am not living in the United States)?

2) If we do need a U.S. law firm, can I just create my own by setting up an office and an address but still live abroad?

-You do not need a U.S. firm to handle your filings if you are registered to practice before the USPTO.
