Patent Agent Ads in IP Today
« on: 02-13-05 at 07:36 pm »

I have been working in an IP law firm for two years now as a patent agent with a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

I am now considering working on my own, i.e., solo practice.  In this regard, I have been noticing the advertisements of patent agents in Intellectual Property Today magazine.

Can anyone tell me if they know, either from firsthand experience or hearsay, whether or not placing an ad in IP Today as an experienced Patent Agent presents a lucrative opportunity?  This would help me know how much of a risk I'm taking if I quit this job before placing the ad.

I look at the ads of these patent agents, typically as "Overflow and Contract Work" and wonder, with so much curiosity, if they are making a good business from their ads.  I think they must be getting some business because I notice that they place their ads on a continuing basis, which would get expensive over time.

Your input will provide me with essential information that will determine my future!

Thank you so much.

I am a patent attorney who has recently started out on my own.  I am about to place an ad in IP today.  I'll let you know how it turns out.
