Question on taking an idea from paper to reality

I cam across this while searching for some information for a friend of mine, and since i'd rather not go through each and every topic, I decided to start a new one. My friend has an idea for a trivia type game, based on different music genres and eras, but is at a loss as to how to go about getting it copyrighted and such. She has asked me to assist her in this venture and so, I ask, how can we get the idea from paper to reality?
