Is there a copyright on the theme for the movie 2001 A Space Odessey? If there is, then when make a recording that begins with the opening of this song am I infringing their copyright? I have heard other songs that begin like another popular song and then go in a diferent direction. Since music is made of patterns that are repeated in one way or another, how do I know when I am infringing? How similar (or different?) does the music have to be?
