Received the email ding for this position today after being strung along for months.  F*** you too Mr. Kappos.

It'll be hard not to tell them to jam it when they call to discuss the biomedical engineering examiner position.  An even money proposition at this point.

I don't know what your guys' situation is, but lately the PTO has a lot more applicants for fewer openings. In the past they have shown a willingness to hire people with atypical backgrounds. I know one person that was a secretary for 10 years. I know two people that were previously stay at home moms and one person that was a stay at home dad. I know one person that was a cook. Private industry wouldn't have given those people a chance and they're all doing okay (except for the ex stay at home dad who quit). So if you don't have a better paying job in a few years consider applying again and maybe you'll be surprised.

Apparently, but thanks for rubbing it in.  I was offered a position 7 years ago when I was coming out of undergrad, but I decided to go into the private sector instead.  I guess I didn't quite make the cut for the GS-11 position this time around.  It kind of surprised me.

Yes, but weren't using them for extended period of time.

Got a rejection, with an EE background, masters in another engineering field, JD, and over one year combined IP experience

same here - got my rejection notice today. BS in biomedical engineering, 10+ years R&D in biotech products and medical devices and designing processes for manufacturing such products, recent JD, and 1-2 yr patent prosecution experience.   i submitted an app for the grade 7/9 position this week... wish i knew what kind of tech background in BME the office was looking for as our field can be pretty diverse.   i'm beginning to consider just looking for a new BME job.

for those of you who got the offers, did you get the offer via phone first then filled out employment forms (OF-306 "Declaration for Federal Employment" form and HSPD-12 on-line form) and sent official transcripts to HR?  OR vice versa?

I got the same email. The notification I got two weeks ago was just an automated message to tell me about the change in my application status, it wasn't an official rejection letter. I would assume that the fall openings, if there are any, will follow the same schedule.

I am an EE with over 3 years experience working for the USPTO. I am thinking about reapplying to the USPTO b/c the hoteling benefit is appealing to me.

I had no problem with the production system; however, I was put off by the SPEs picking on examiners they didn't like.  I saw a lot of examiners moved up to the position of SPE who office actions were just junk and very poor quality.   I hope the PTO has changed.

Also, I saw people die on the job...talk to a freind whose an examiner now and I asked him, "is the ambulance still pulling up cating people out"...he said, "the ambulance is out there now"....sooo I don't know if I want to leave my stress free computer networking gig for "Count Monday" stress...plus I may have to beat up my old SPE (just joking)...
