Is this worth the money for the added protection?
Is there added protection?

There are a number of variations in NDAs.  The main customization I've seen is a more particular identification of the information to be disclosed.

Whether anything is worth the money is a business decision, based on cost-benefit analysis.  In an NDA, the cost should be low -- probably less than an hour of attorney time.  Can't say what the benefit would be worth to your particular business.

Regards.

As you may know, the gist of the NDA is to create, in the listener, a duty not to disclose any new subject matter disclosed in your presentation.

Let's say, the subject matter is already known or under development by the company you are visiting - then you are not presenting new subject matter and the listener has no duty, to you, not to market their own products.  Conversely, you have already disclosed that material on various websites - then, again, then you are not presenting new subject matter during the meeting that is protected by the NDA.

What you need to do is to get your bona fide, formal application on file.
