Solos- what do you pay for health insurance?
« on: 04-15-10 at 09:06 am »

Early 40's.  Wife and one child.  Non smoker, and in the lowest health-risk category (according to Anthem Insurance).  My risks have not changed since then, as we've done no major procedures at all- just office visits and some blood work (that went under deductable anyways):

Date           Rate (per month)         Deductable            Office Visit CoPay          Perscription Med plan
Oct 2003     $385                          $1000                   $25                            Yes
May 2009     $925                         $ 1000                   $25                            Yes
Jun  2009     $657                         $2500                    $25                            Yes
Oct 2009      $854                         $2500                    $25                            Yes
Nov 2009      $625                         $5000                   N/A                             Yes

Went on Cholestrol medication this past year (though insurance stressed that this did not change my risk level) and all else is the same.  Still get the 'negotiated rates' for office visits (usually 40 - 50% what I would pay coming off the street), but no co-pay for Office visits.  It feels almost like the 'This Is SpinalTap' movie for my health insurance...

Each of my plan changes was to reduce the health care expenses...

So what does your health insurance cost?

Me, late 20s, stunningly attractive, body builder shape, and a real ladies' man (OK, some of that description is made up) - $90 a month on an HSA with 5k deductible.***

***  It is my understanding that the new Health Care bill will pretty much wipe out the HSA, which is a real shame because it is one of the cheapest cost alternatives to the current insurance plans.

As a real ladies man, would you qualify for the "lowest risk" group? ;)

Well they don't ask you on the Health Insurance applications whether you are a "ladies' man" or not.  I guess they should, then they would have reason to hike rates.

The women want me because of my undergraduate degree in Physics and fascination with Star Trek.

Look, I am living in my own little fantasy world.  Don't do anything to disrupt that!

Dude, where I come from, women think Captain Kirk is the stuff.  Then again, they all watch reruns of andy griffith and golden girls all day too.
