My band and I are thinking of cutting a CD, however we want to cover old song as well. Where do we start to get approval to do this. Where in Canada just in case that makes a difference.

Thanks

If you want to record covers of previously recorded songs, there's always mechanical (compulsory) licenses available.  I don't know about Canada.

You should check out Website www.songfile.com this is an extension of the Harry Fox Agency, they issue compulsory mechanical licenses on the behalf of songwriters and music publishers.

STEPHEN LEE ANDERSON [#150860], 35, of Irvine was suspended for three months, stayed, placed on 18 months of probation and was ordered to take the Professional Responsibility Exam within a year. Anderson was convicted of making a false statement to a police officer after falsely identifying himself as a deputy district attorney during a traffic stop. He had been stopped for making a right turn from a left-turn lane and produced an identification card and a badge identifying him as a Los Angeles County deputy DA. In fact, he was not a deputy DA. His actions amounted to an act of moral turpitude. Fraud lies jerk discplined by the California State Bar Steve Anderson attorney check out his record with the California State Bar for fraud lawyer lies fraud beware criminal. Bad attorney ugly person rotten lies fraud.
