I made one new post. I have ideas for a couple more which I'll try to work on next week.

No new news on the recruitment/retention bonus front...POPA is keeping an eye on it though.

From Kappos' first major public speech earlier this week:

"This means no hiring in 2010, so the size of the agency will decrease.  It means no IT improvements, no overtime and probably no progress in cutting into the backlog."

I guess it doesn't matter much at this time if "2010" refers to fiscal year 2009-2010 (oct 1 - sep 30) or calendar year 2010.

"no progress in cutting into the backlog": sorry, R K S -- seems to be one of your pet peeves  ;D

So much for this option of entering the field of patent law.  Firms are laying off/not hiring. PTO is not hiring. Sucks being entry level right now.

I am beginning to wonder if my presence in this thread is even needed anymore.

Then again, I don't want to disappoint HorseSchute.

yep, I think this thread should be laid to rest till 2011.  Getting a job in the USPTO is now purely hypothetical.

Maybe when that time comes around, there'll be a new "Working at the USPTO" thread.

And Horsechute will be rechristened as "Tripledirect3". I much prefer the term "rechristened" to "sock puppet".

yep, I think this thread should be laid to rest till 2011.  Getting a job in the USPTO is now purely hypothetical.

Put to better use, between now and 2011 you could use the thread for lawyer jokes.

Veteran and rookie cop looking on the scene of an accident.  Veteran asks rookie to provide his best guess as to what happened.

Rookie says, "based on this ugly, greasy smear on the road, it could only have been one of two things.  Speeding driver hit a pig that somehow got loose from his pen, or hit a lawyer who was aimlessly wandering drunk down the middle of the road."

"Well", says the veteran, "which was it?".

Rookie says, "You can't tell based on the information we have."

Veteran disagrees and says, "It's your first time out so I'll cut you some slack, but to any trained observer it should be obvious it was a lawyer from the fact that there are no skid marks."

("No pigs or lawyers were harmed in the telling of this joke.  Tiger does not consume plastic wrap.")

The title of this thread is "Working for the USPTO" not "Getting a job at the PTO"

There's plenty of stuff going on now with the new regime to keep this thread going.

window office effective next bi-week
>:(

I was lied to. The phrases "self-move" and "as soon as the ink is wet" were thrown around first week of September. I'm told today "I'm not moving you until the second week in October".

Look at the bright side.  That's another few weeks you won't have to worry about the annoying problem of monitor glare.

How to Learn the MPEP sections for Patent Bar Exam ?

I see a lot of posts out there about reading and knowing the sections of the MPEP for Patent Bar Exam.   Sections 600, 700, 1200, 1800, and 2100.   That is a lot of material to read through.  Anyone have a better methodology on how to read it and apply it to pass the Pat Bar Exam ?
