Just got the call offer. People who sent in the transcript, of306, and hspd12 should be in. I'm BS in electrical engineering, law minor, and electrical engineering patent work experience, gs 7-10 with accelerated promotions twice every 6 months. I start August 30th, I think it was pushed back so they're probably not done processing applicants. I also applied before the early cut off date. Good luck everybody!
What GS level u gonna start, i mean did u apply for the GS9-11, or GS7-9

Nice. Luckily we received a good month's notice, I know two people who just before the hiring freeze were given less than a week to give their notice and start. HR seems to be more on top of it this time. And for those people still applying, consider that the pto meant to hire 1,000 people every year for about 5 more years still when the hiring freeze came. At that point they also fired a lot of people who weren't doing so well to cut costs. So they're really backed up on work and it seems like sooner or later there should be a spot available. Besides the extraordinary crash like there was recently, I doubt the rebuilding of the economy will slow patents from coming in and needing to be processed.

Does anyone know what areas within the EE discipline they are looking at hiring most new examiners?

i think someone said he was a compE. im kind of curious too because it seems like there is no correlation in their hiring. you have people with masters, bs, law experience, no experience. i think most people have work experience though. could it be that they are doing it by proximity to the pto? lol. i think most people so far live close to alexandria or in VA. any other guesses?

for those of you who got offers, what letter does your last name start? I am wondering if they are going down the list alphabetically.

I think the HR is only looking at the BS/Graduate degree. They aren't looking for work experience and certainly isn't reading the KSA. If you have it, then great, but, they aren't looking beyond the degree. In the most recent announcement, under Basic Qualification, there is the Related Curriculum STD and it seemed that they didn't even know that STD existed. Under the Related Curriculum STD, I qualify for BMED, but, I got a NOR stating that I am not qualified based on education. I already knew that I did not qualify solely based on education and that I would only qualify under related curriculum.

I was tentatively picked for class 455, but there should be work available in storage and image processing. I would apply for any area of ee if I were you, you'll get trained in each area and you have a more chances of getting chosen.

did you apply for gs7 or gs9? Both and my NOR said I was qualified for both, but offered GS7 step 10 - I was told last year it was better to start at a high 7 than a low 9 (the money would be very similar but the production quota is less). So I am happy with the offer. I have 2 masters too.

Last name starts with a D. They just started making offers this week and training was pushed back till aug 30th so there's still time.

According to the announcement, having one of those degrees is one way to qualify and the best way. Another way would be to have a degree in similar field like chemistry, biochem, etc. . . and at least 1 year of work experience in BMED. Unfortunately, the HR folks, at least the one I spoke to, do not even know about the second way to qualify.

Before the hiring freeze about a year ago or so, they used to offer ~$9000 of recruitment bonus for EE's and COmpE's for 4 years (provided your production is successful continuously). I guess due to the economy, they are not (or dont need to) doing that anymore.
Regarding this job, this job is really about one's personality, as you will soon find out. Furthermore, once the so called "amendments" starts rolling in, you actually have lesser time to work on the new applications. That is where I think is the "make or break" point for the newly hired examiners.
If you, however, like this kind of job, then you can really go up the GS levels fast, like to GS 14 in about 6~7 years. Anyway, good luck to everyone.
