Just out of curiosity, for those of you who have gotten interviews, what is the interview like? Did you interview with a SPE or Primary Examiner? What sort of questions did you get?

but then again anything can happen before the offer. Another recession or the power outage brings on martial law? Class starts on August 16th, hr is not sure how many session there will be.

Ha yeah, I got this far last spring before the hiring freeze... I'd love to know in the next uh 3 days so I can give 2 weeks notice if the academy is August 16th... oh I don't recall where I read it, but for some reason I thought there was only one class of ~100 people... that could be "false".

The interview was fairly simple. The SPE asked me to describe any technical project that I had done during work/school.

Sorry for posting this again, but does anyone have recommendations on apartments near the PTO? Are there any within walking distance? Thanks.

In the elevator the SPE told another person I was being interviewed for the August Academy.  Let's see if they can get it together in time...

The interview is a form interview, I am pretty sure someone once posted the questions on here.  I think I had the same questions both interviews.

I live local (grew up here too), but not near Alexandria or Arlington - Actually I live quite aways away, but own a house.  I'd guess anywhere metro accessible would be good as you could metro to the USPTO.  Personally I like the Orange line (Courthouse area for example).  I would avoid Huntington at all costs.  Old Towne Alexandria is nice, but an older crowd overall.  The nearest metro I think is King Street which is the USPTO so... maybe there is a bus?  I'd find a place within a few blocks of a metro with a parking garage (if you have a car) that fits in your budget.  If you aren't from DC area, parking at metro lots is a rough go.

Some of the stations are in areas that make walking to the metro easy.  E.g. Ballston, Courthouse, Clarendon, and VA Square all Orange line.  Places like Arlington Cemetary isn't really a place you can live... lol.  Rosslyn is less walking friendly but still do-able.  I don't know much about Pentagon City area, but there are less housing options I think vs. North Arlington.  Some of the metro stops are located in more traffic like regions or residential aka they just stuck a stop somewhere.  You can go to WMATA.com and see how long it takes from one place to another.  I can't imagine it taking more than 20 minutes from Clarendon to King Street (USPTO) via metro and they give a metro reimbursement.  I know Clarendon area has really nice apts with garage parking.  It's easy to walk to restaurants and what not without needing a car, but if you do have one, you have a garage so you don't have to worry about finding street parking (a headache).

places within walking distance are pretty pricey,  but i have heard good things about the meridian at carlyle.  not cheap,  but very close to the pto, metro, and old towne.

Thanks.

How about Avalon at Cameron Court? Or Carlyle Mill? Have you heard anything about either one of them?

If you are sole "happiness" is being close to work that's one thing... but maybe share you situation/age.  For example, I'm 28 with 2 dogs, 1/3 acre, and live with my BF a good distance away.  However, to me, having a yard is #1 - we don't ever go to DC or clubbing.

Driving around inside the beltway is not something I consider fun, thus were I you, I'd want to be close to my passions, e.g. I used to live in Ballston and loved it.  It's a young area and I played softball and tennis there.

Would anyone mind sharing what the 2nd in person interview (ie- call back) is like? How long, etc. From what I hear, the people who had a initial phone interview had a subsequent in person interview. Is the same true for those who did not have a phone interview the first round but met in person?

I don't know anything about phone interviews, both times I was interviewed in person then sent the OF-306 and PIV to fill out.  Are phone interviews for people out of the area?
