I am trying to start a business regarding patent searches and looking for liability insurance.  Though I got quotes for the same, I was told by the insurance agent that the insurance should be current as of date of claim.  But considering that the patent related claims could be done long time from when the work was performed and I may or may not be in business then, does any one know how to deal with this problem?  Also, any particular insurance providers that would actually cover for claims as long as the work was done during the policy period.

Ask your prospective insurance carrier about the availability of "rider" policies that provide coverage for acts performed by the insured under a coverage period, but for which a claim is made after coverage has expired.  My experience is that many malpractice insurance policies include this type of coverage automatically, or make it available as an option.
