First Job
« on: 03-08-10 at 04:04 pm »

I passed the patent bar during law school then passed the Maryland bar this past summer.  My grades are good (top 30%) and I have a bachelors in applied physics, however, I have not had much luck in finding a job in the IP area.  Ideally I want to do patent prosecution and am having the typical problem of getting that first job.  I have seen that some others had their first job be a position searching patents and preparing patentability reports for a firm, solo practitioner or corporation.  My questions is, where do I go to find these jobs?  Apparently others have had offers doing work remotely so that location is not a problem.  I have been looking and applying to jobs for a few months now and have not seen any jobs like this.

Hi, did you go to U Maryland law school?  since you passed the Maryland bar and I figure you must be in the area.
Try firms like Finnegan/Sterne because they have scooped up a good number of people from Maryland.

you could always try places like LandonIP or Cardinal Intellectual property. I don't know if either of these places are hiring.

If by "always" you mean "a little bit very recently and for the first time in more than a year"...
