Hi Guys,

Can anyone give me a list of land mark cases for UK which are related to novelty, obivousness and infringement. I'm studying for the foundation Patent exams and would like to get this knowledge under my belt

For the UK exams there is one major source of information: the Black Book. That should contain sufficient references to the major case law.

The you will have a hard time to pass the exams. Maybe somone still has an old copy somewhere that you could use as a starter?

I don't know what the law schools in the UK are like.  Here in the U.S., the ones I've seen allow outsiders to use their law libraries for certain limited purposes.  There are also federally funded "depository" law libraries that are required to allow access by the public:

You might try checking with your local law schools to see what their policies are.

Cornell's web site is a good place for free information.

A law school librarian can be a lot of help too.

Some state bars give attorneys free access to pay databases.  In your case, you can find a law student willing to help you, they will have access to Lexis or Westlaw or you pay for access.

" CIPA Guide to the Patents Acts [The 'Black Book'] The standard text on UK patent law and practice for practising attorney. Published by Sweet & Maxwell. ..."  (CIPA=Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, apparently)
