Good evening folks,

Thanks for providing such a valuable service to aspiring lawyers such as myself.  Since my undergraduate major was philosophy, qualifying automatically under Category A for taking the Patent Bar exam is not possible.  However, I do have a question about qualifying under Category B, specifically, option 2:

The requirements set forth by the Office state that: 8 Hours of Physics + 24 hrs of biology, botany, microbiology or molecular biology.

The question I have is whether these 24 hours must be within the same discipline -- in other words, should all 24 hours be of biology, or can they be a combination of biology, botany, microbiology and molecular biology.

I already have 8 hours of physics, and 8 hours of biology.  I was thinking of taking the following coursework:

-   Microbiology – 4 hours
-   Botany I and II for Science Majors – 8 hours
-   Genetics – 4 hours (listed as a biology course)

Would this satisfy the requirements of the Office?  Or would they require 24 hours within a single discipline?

Also, I must mention that while I am going to law school, I have been a programmer for about 6 years now, and I am working as a product manager at an excellent IT firm.  I started programming at the age of 17 and never thought i should major in Computer Science, because well, I was already professionally programming while I was doing my undergraduate work.  Thus, it is not that I don't enjoy sciences, physics and mathematics.  I  truly do.  However, given the circumstances at the time of my schooling, I did not consider majoring in science.

Thank you SO much!
