Billable hours target
« on: 11-08-09 at 04:47 pm »

Hello,

I have a question for those of you with law firm experience.

Do full time associates and patent agents in your firm's IP department have the same billable hour targets?  I mention full time, because I know that some firms reduce the billable hour target for employees attending school part time.

Thank you in advance!

At my firm, full-time agents have a yearly target that is 200 hrs lower than associates.

At my old firm, the student associates (who attend law school while working at the same time) had a billable goal of 1500 hours per year, a full 500 less than a full associate.

Thank you for responding.  I'm particularly interested in any differences (if present) between the billable hours target for full time patent agents vs. the billable hours target for full time IP associates.

Any further input?  TIA.

Why is there a difference between the target hours of associates and the agents?

Why is there a difference between the target hours of associates and the agents?

$var Associate_Pay=200K; //on average?
$var Agent_Pay=Associate_Pay/2; //if lucky

echo Associate_Pay;
echo Agent_Pay; //100K

Also, as has been discussed on the board, associates can attain partner (stakeholder) while in general agents cannot.

At my firm the target is the same for agents and associates.  We also use a straight eat-what-you-kill bonus structure.

;D They don't teach programming languages at the PTO. That is what college was for.

It's not PHP (or not good PHP).  The dollar signs go on the variable names.

FORTRAN 77 was probably the best course I took at university.. after I.C. processing. The worst course was probably Vector Calculus.. mainly due to the instructor who made it drudgery.
