What's the name for that secondary tiny rectangle in the latest editions of MSIE and Mozilla Firefox? The one that is used for various search engine inquiries? Basically, you enter some text and a drop-down menu is available of the search engines you can use.

I thought it was 'search bar' but then realized that is pretty generic and can be applied to the rectangle one enters an URL.

The name does appear to be "search bar."

Cf. www.mozilla.com/firefox/search.html:
"Products | Mozilla
The Firefox Search bar comes pre-loaded with Google, Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, Answers.com, ... It's easy to add more search engines to the Firefox Search bar. ..."

The name for the place where the URL goes is the "URL Text Field"

Cf. http://www.laubach-on.ca/browser_screen.htm :
"URL Text Field:  this field provides the address (universal resource locator) of the web site you are currently visiting."

This post is an off-the-cuff musing and should not be misconstrued as legal advice. THERE IS NO ATTORNEY-CLIENT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN US. Proper legal advice requires full disclosure of facts-not appropriate to a public forum-and attorney research time and effort which has not been expended here.

A type of filter-able combo box, if you're talking UI side of things.
