generic method

Hi,

I have a question around the way to present an idea.

Say, I have a procedure that looks at some inputs data and then processes
the data and creates new information which is useful in a certain context.
Now the input data I am talking about are written based on target systems.
So that can vary depending on the target type. So I cannot go into too much details
of the procedure since low level details will depend on the input data which will
depend on the target type. Given such a scenario, how do I approach the solution.

let me know if I am too vague so that I can rephrase...

Regards,
