IP Ranking vs. Overall Ranking
« on: 02-13-09 at 11:42 am »

Does the quality of the IP program play any role in job opportunities?  I've heard from some people to "go to the best school you can get into" while others that say that certain schools can help in getting a job in IP law.

My question boils down to this:  Which school is going to give me better job prospects as a patent attorney, University of Texas or GW.  How much of a difference does 5 or so in the overall ranking help, if at all?

I have no idea where I want to practice.  As a result, I want to attend the school which gives me the best options for nation wide placement.

I don't think there is any difference between the two. I heard employers look strongly of the 1L GPA though, so the important thing is to visit the schools and choose the one that you feel to have a more comfortable environment for your study.

Also, have you considered going to a more "regional" school and getting scholarship money?  Let's say you're an EE guy, going to Santa Clara, having them throw some $$$ at you and being in the Valley might not be a bad life.  I'm guessing you have pretty good grades and a decent LSAT to get into UT.
