if a company were to purchase goods from a supplier in good faith and sells them, then it turns out that the supplier  had copied someone elses product what would be the potential consequences for the company

Without taking professional responsibility, my though is that you would have a primary liability for what you have done. Much can be done on your behalf and the source could be looked to if findable and solvent to take responsibilitiy.

It is realy too complex, in all its possibilities to give a thorough answer.
