: : if i'm in a band i want to trademark the band name, if i'm going to sell c.d.s in/out of state do i need to t.m. or t.n. anything else to be within the law, and what is the difference between t.m. and t.n. as far as a band name is concerned

Dear Mark,
You don't need to do anything, but if you don't could find yourself possibly in trouble with the name and unprotected as to your rights.

Tm means trademark, it has no legal significance. Tn has no meaning. The use of a "R" in if properly used has legal significance.

Copyrights have to be registered.
