: if i'm in a band i want to trademark the band name, if i'm going to sell c.d.s in/out of state do i need to t.m. or t.n. anything else to be within the law, and what is the difference between t.m. and t.n. as far as a band name is concerned

Dear Kevin,

Trademarks and Service Marks are Federally registerable, and protectable nationally. Tradenames have to be registered locally to show ownership. They are not by their registration empowered to be enforced like a trademark.
