Trademarks are of course only pretain to the country in which they are registered. Are you registering in the US? Then
try http://208.232.65.161/tmsearch.cfm for a free US search. Unfortunately it only tells you if the trademark is taken or not.
If you want a really good Canadian trademark search site look no further than
http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/cgi-bin/trade-marks/search_e.pl
It gives complete trademark registration info on Canadian trademarks right down to the image.
