Branded artwork

I have branded artwork (created, developed by me that I plan to trademark) that a highly recognizable designer wants to purchase outright for a clothing line and fragrance packaging. Is there a way to protect my branded characters from becoming the designer's brand (by association/awareness in the market). I don't want to be overexposed and always associated with this designer since I have worked very hard to develop my brands/characters. I am trying to get a licensing contract with the designer that will help me retain my copyrights. I hope this is the right place to post this! Looking for some insight. Thank you.
