: Hello, I have embarked on a business venture with some partners and recently purchased a number of possible URL’s for this venture. These URL’s were available and purchased one month ago. I recently received a registered letter from a law office claiming that my URL name was infringing on their trademark. : They are a new female clothing company based in NJ who demanded that we explain what our company will be doing. They went on further to say that we would not be able to use this URL for any sales of clothing. We are not a clothing company, but do plan to sell T-shirts and such. Also, our URL only has part of their name in it. : An example of their name is Jersey Fashions or "jerseyfashions.com" (fictitious) and our name "jerseywear.com" (fictitious) a part of East/West Jersey company. : If they were concerned about protecting their brand, shouldn't they have purchased numerous derivations of their name rather than coming after our company as well as 4 other small companies. Secondly, we did not get this URL to cybersquat. (By the way, they have no interest in our name availability, just our inability to use it) : Fortunately, we have other names and avenues to pursue but I was hoping someone may shed some light on this situation. Is there any protection for URL owners from corporate harassment? : Thank You.
