Old games with dead trademark

I am curious about old games with dead trademarks. I have done some basic research into some old games I used to play when I was younger. I would like to computerize them and put them on the web. The games that are in question have "dead" trademarks. The original game company has been bought and the games in question are no longer sold by the new company.

Can I just reuse the rules/boards/pieces (without the old company logo of course) from these games? Can I trademark it myself?
