Dear P Sweitzer,

The name can be searched. I'm prejudiced in that even if you can do it yourself there are risks. There was a posting today about a cancelled mark. I'll wager that the trademark owner did it himself or did not use an Intellectual Property lawyer. Many general practitioners are not aware of the subtlties of Intellectual Property law.

No lawyer in good standing is required to have any prequalification to practice before any Federal Agency, except the United Patent and Trademark Office where there is prequalification and a special exam has to be passed in order to file patent applications.
