Can an Industry Acronym Be Used in a Trademark?

We are looking to register a trademark with an industry acronym embedded.

As an example, let's use the word 'CDWorld'. It contains the letters 'CD' which is an industry acronym for 'Compact Disk'.

We believe we can trademark a word as such however, I'd like to see what the boards think.
