I've been working as and electrial engineer for over 20 years. I've been layed off 3 times in the last 3 years. A friend of mine who used to work with me, quit her job and went to law school, got her law degree and is now a patent attorney. We had lunch the other day and she encouraged me to apply for patent agent jobs with my present experience only. No need to take additional courses, she told me. They are looking for technical professionals who are good communicators, have good writing skills, work well with people. The law firms according to her are willing to take me in and train me while paying me a salary. The salary isn't great however. Only 30K to begin with and perhaps will move towards 50K.
