Dear Jill,
The days of Horation Alger are over. It is tough to make a buck with just an idea. If you had a good patent, it might be easier but even that is no guarantee. Patents are VERY easy to get. Good patents are hard to find. Even selling or licencing a good patent is not easy.
This is not to discourage you but to alert you to what you are up against.
