Dear L. Lewis,
You start with a patent lawyer you can TRUST as early as possible so you don't jeopardize your legal rights. Even worthless patents are expensive. There are also strategies to best protect idea even without patents and sometimes there is very little to be done. That is why we have the Reality Check®.

Just because you may not be able to get a patent or a good patent does not necessarily mean there is no hope.
