Dear B Arvine,
Ideas in themselves are not patentable. In order to get a patent an invention must be new, useful and unobvious.
It is usually not difficult to get a patent. Even simple patents are expensive. There are scam artists that advertize and get patents. Only one in ten thousand patentees gets back more than they pay.
