Arthur Auslander on May 20, 2003 at 08:12:31: Great reply, Mr. Auslander! My husband is a brilliant inventor who has invented, and patented, many well-known items. I would go so far as to wager that eight out of every ten people reading this forum know of at least one of his inventions. As far as I know, it is not generally a patent attorney's duty to ascertain the marketability of an invention. For the right fee, most attorneys will be glad to file your patent, whether it is marketable, or not. If Mr. Auslander is willing to offer a feasibility evaluation for a reasonable fee, it could be a wise investment. "Jdeal," if Mr. Auslander is "too smart" for you, all the more reason to hire him or another reputable attorney!! As for your analogy, doctors do not get into medicine "purely" for the sake of helping people, (unless, perhaps, they are born with the proverbial silver spoon); everybody has to make a living. "Ads," if you want to see "manipulative," go see an attorney who operates on a contingency basis. It is doubtful you will ever get the services that would be provided by a paid attorney. And, if you ever do "strike gold," the contingency fee will be substantially more than you would have had to pay to begin with. If you believe in your invention, you will pay the money up front, not pay someone a huge percentage for the rest of your life, (or the life of your invention)!!! Mr. Auslander's firm has been in business a long time. He seems honest, intelligent, and informative. More importantly, he seems to enjoy his work and he's responsive, which is more than I can say for any other attorney I have met! You guys can have the con(tingency)men, I'll bet on the lawyers who get paid!
