Career path for future ip attorney?[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Patent Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by cal on June 11, 2003 at 01:47:34:
Hello to all! I'm currently on active duty with the Army as an officer (that is, I have been activated for stateside Guard duty). I'm also heavily interested in become a patent attorney. To date, I have enrolled in the LSDAS and have attempted (but got turned down) by some of the law schools I have applied to (due to low LSAT scores). No matter. I'll keep on going. In the meantime, I'm studying for the USPTO bar by using the Patent Resource course brought forth by Prof. Kayton. Here's my question: is being a patent attorney a good lead in for ip prosecution? I'm also considering transferring to the Army JAG Corps once I complete law school and (hopefully) pass the state bar. I would like to do the latter to pick up courtroom experience for ip prosecution. Is this a wise thing to do or am I wasting my time going that route? I appreciate your candid answers and hopefully can make some intelligent decisions based on whatever input I can get. Thanks. 1LT Cal
