: I am fresh out of college, dirt poor with a big student loan. I can't afford a patent attorney so I am writing a provisional patent with the intent of hiring a patent attorney at a later date to do an actual provisional patent. Even the $75.00 for a provisional is a big cut out of my funds right now. But I have a great idea.

: Question. If I hire a patent attorney 6 months after my provisional is filed, will the provisional ever be available to the public to view? The reason I ask is that my provisional is very revealing as far as how to make the invention. Maybe a little too detailed. I figure the more detail I add the better.

: If my patent attorney completes the utility patent, I am assuming he can remove the uneccesarily detailed information from the provisional.

: I have a great idea, and am sure I can get an investor once I start marketing my product after the provisional is filed.

Dear Dirt Poor,
You have my sympathy as to your poverty. Poverty or not, though it will cost more than the filing fee, a Reality Check® may show you that the $75 might be a waste of time, money and worry. Just because and idea is good does not mean that you are certain to profit from a patent.
What is more even if it is good enough to be desireable, does not mean that you must profit from it.
One of the best patents I have gotten, and for a personal friend, was shown to the top company in the field. That company won a $50Meg industrial prize for turning out a product not as good as the patent and not infinging it.
