: : Thank you for the information. What are some of the red flags for an untrustworthy lawyer. Do you mean that they might steal your ideas for your invention, or take advantage of you like a corrupt auto mechanic? Dear Roy, I do not believe any sensible lawyer would steal an idea. There are those, though that accept all ideas with enthusiasm any may rush to file patent applications EVEN THOUGH the idea or patent search may show that it is unlikely that BROAD PROTECTIVE CLAIMS are likely obtainable. It is more like auto mechanics, not telling the whole story. Corrupt lawyers generally know how to not leave any clear record of corruption. The problem is that there are some patent lawyers the will focus on getting a patent, which is generally easy and not on giving the inventor the picture of what the patent law may not be able to do for the inventor. What is more just having a good patent is not insurance that it is going to make money. One of the best patents I have ever gotten was for a personal friend, was shown to one of the biggest companies in the industry. They didn't buy. Thereafter An industry group offered a MULTI MULTI Millon prize for what the patent did. The company we showed to won the $$$$$$$ for a device not as good but that reached the desired result without infringing the patent. M.
