I have invented something very,very useful that no one has ever thought of before. But I am confused about patent law. What I need to know is wether or not I need to build a working model of the invention before I apply for a patent? The problem is that I can easily design and build my invention in my head and on paper, but it would probably take several months for me to be able to build an actual physical working model of the invention. This is because I will need to have special parts machined, and a specific circuit board developed. : : Also, I plan to travel to Europe in a few months, and I would like to file my application this month if I can. Does the patent office usually expect a working model? If so, I can send one in about 5 months from now, if my application is filed this month.
