: Hello, : I recently got my PhD in molecular and cell biology, currently doing my postdoc in a major pharmaceutical company in a drug discovery division. I'm trying to get more info on an intellectual property jobs for PhDs before I totally decide to switch my career. I know almost nothing about this field. My questions are: : 1. Do I have to take a special exam : first to be considered for a "scientific advisor" position or could do it later. : 2. What's the difference between scientific advisors and patent agents? : 3. Will I be stuck in my further career if I don't go to law school? : 4. What is a starting salary for scientific advisor? : 5. What are the future job prospects in this field? Is intellectual property law pretty stable field (in terms of economy recession, markets, etc.) : 6. What do I start from????????????? I found a lot of firms in new york city area, but do I have to flood them with my resume? What are my chances to find job like like this w/o networking? please, be realistic!!! : Thanks a lot.
