Arthur Auslander is correct. At least at law firms Patent agents will be very limited. Attorneys cannot be business partners with non-attorneys. At corporations, this is not quite true. Very often Chiefs of Intellectual property in corporations have hit a ceiling. A patent agent with a long track record of engineering and advanced engineering degrees are often selected for the VP positions, e.g. VP Engineering, VP operations etc. : One other point. Some attorneys who operate on the edge of ethics may seek to get the patent agent minion to execute tasks that raise the ugly spectre of wrongdoing. The savy PA that refuses would most likely be accused of insubordination and be described as not knowing beter because they are only a patent agent. : PAs are simply disliked by attorneys. Dear Good Luck, There is no doubt that attorneys can be unethical and that many attorneys are. It is not a question of predjudice, agents ARE limited. There are unethical lawyers, unfortuntely, but that still does not explain, what an unethical lawyer can make a Patent Agent do that would be a violation of ethics. M. Arthur Auslander
