Dear CWJ,
The name can be registered as a trademark. Before investing in its use, it is important to search its availabililty, for two reasons: one to see if it is registerable and the other to see if it is in conflict with other marks.

The usual steps are to contact an Intellectual Property lawyer you can trust. The work can be done without an Intellectual Property lawyer. The risk is the possible oversight. The legal mechanic are not complex. The subtleties of the law and the proceedures may even elude general practicioners.
