In the United States all patents must issue in the name of the inventor. So if you are the sole inventor, as opposed to co-inventor with say your professor or other students then the patent will issue in your name. You may however have an obligation to assign the patent to the University depending on your agreement with them. Many employers require their R & D personell to sign invention agreements requiring the assinment of any inventions created on the job or with employer's equipment and materials to be assigned to the employer -- after all thats what the employer is paying them for. Some Universities have strict policies while some are more liberal. I know of one university which splits any revenue from patents 50/50 with the inventors.
