Problem with homology search against NCBI BLAST PAT database

Does anyone know how exclusive the NCBI PAT database is? I performed several tests recently but the results were not encouraging.

Basically, here is what I have done: 1) obtain a nucleotide/amino acid sequence from a patent; 2) paste it into BLAST; 3) search against PAT database. The sequences I used were about 200-600aa or 400-1600nt long. At least one would expect BLAST to return the query sequence (and its patent number) since they are identical. However, several of my BLAST tests failed to do so, which is pretty scary.

Does anyone here have similar experience with BLAST PAT database? Any tips?

Thanks a lot.
